Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Apas Ka Kura (Talking to Each Other)

Launched on March 12 2005, the radio programme Apas Ka Kura (Talking to Each Other) is broadcast on Radio Nepal's national broadcast and on FM stations nationwide to address HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination.
Communication Strategies
The 30-minute radio drama and audio magazine integrates entertainment with messages to reduce the negative impact of stigma and discrimination. It uses a mix of entertaining drama, comedy, songs, radio jingles, radio spots, interviews, and discussions as part of programming.

The show is produced in collaboration with Nepal's National Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS (NAP+N) and Thompson Nepal, a local ad agency. Ek Apas Ka Kura is a joint effort involving people living with HIV/AIDS, popular radio and television stars, and media experts.
Key Points
The show's design is based on results of a research study conducted by FHI/Nepal on stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS.
