Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Farm Radio Weekly (FRW) is a news and information service initiated by Farm Radio International (FRI). Through a newsletter and a website, FRW strives to provide rural radio organisations in sub-Saharan Africa with news and resources that help them meet the information needs of small-scale farmers and farming families.
Communication Strategies

Each newsletter contains a compilation of agricultural and rural development news, accompanied by other resources, such as ideas and links for further research into the issues, and information about upcoming events and training opportunities. FRW is delivered to email in-boxes every week [click here to subscribe] and is also available online.

The FRW website is designed to be a place for broadcasters to share their thoughts and ideas about news and issues, tell others about events and training opportunities, and discuss best practices in rural radio broadcasting.

According to the organisers, FRW is designed to serve the needs of rural broadcasters and their listeners. They invite contributions in the form of articles for "News in Review", news about organisations, upcoming events and/or conferences, or any other content ideas that could be of interest to farming communities.
