What is your privacy policy? [top]
We consider all of the information we receive through subscriptions to our e-publications or discussion forums private and will not distribute your information for any purpose other than to share your work with your colleagues and peers, as is consistent with The Communication Initiative mission. If we share your work in this way, you will be informed and requested to review the information for accuracy.
We will not sell or distribute our subscription lists for any purpose at any time.
Why are words on your site spelled with "s"s instead of "z"s? [top]
Our website uses the British spelling of most words (ie: organisation, programme, mobilisation, colour, etc.) The only time you will see American spelling on The Communication Initiative website is when the title of a project or paper or organisation originally uses American spelling. Anything written by The CI team, however, will use the British spelling.

What is your general editorial policy? [top]
Our focus, editorially, is on communication initiatives and events, materials, reports, etc. that focus on the use and support of communication to impact development, as well as trends in communication worldwide, regionally and by specific country. We strive to keep the information on our site non-promotional (with the exception of our Classifieds sections). Our policy is to provide informational summaries, with as much contact information as possible for people who seek further details and connection with the implementers/originators/authors/publishers. Very occasionally we will post full documents to the site.
For the Training and Events Calendar Sections:
Summaries will be included if - in the opinion of the Editorial Director - at least one of these 3 criteria is met by the Training Opportunity or Event being considered:
- The event or training is clearly and specifically related to the field of development communication.
- The event or training provides an opportunity to strengthen the field of development communication - e.g.: a fundraising workshop which will help development communicators raise increased funds for their work, a policy workshop that allows development communicators to better understand the policy making process, or a workshop on basic communication skills development.
- The event or training provides an opportunity to place development communication knowledge, experience, insights and perspectives central to an important development issue be it in local, provincial, national or international contexts - e.g.: a national event on the future natural resource management policy in a country or the global strategy for implementing a global AIDS Vaccine plan.

Do you ever make changes to the content on your site? [top]
The Communication Initiative reserves the right, in its discretion, to suspend, change, modify, add or remove portions of The Communication Initiative Content available on the site at any time. Most of the time this is in response to changes in information for the sake of accuracy.

Where are the boundaries in your Custom Search Geographical regions? [top]
For a complete breakdown of Countries by Region, click here.
How do I use your Keyword Search? [top]
Our search engines use an "AND" search, rather than an "OR" search. If you enter more than one keyword in the keyword search, the results will reflect all documents or pages that have ALL of the words included. The same is true for the custom keywords - ie: click on south asia and political development and women - and you will receive results that include ALL of these keywords, but not necessarily all together in the same phrase.
Can I do a Phrase Search? [top]
Yes. Just place the words in the phrase within double quotes ("phrase here").
How do you define the sections of your site? [top]
For a complete set of definitions of the sections of our site, as well as links to definitions of our custom search words, please click here.
Why can't I send an attachment through one of your Discussion Forums? [top]
We have specifically limited our Discussion Forum criteria. This is to ensure your privacy and safety online. An attachment that was unknowingly sent carrying a virus would disseminate the virus to ALL members of that discussion. For this reason, we have limited our Discussion Fora to the receipt of simple text emails.
Please summarise any document that you wish to refer to or, if the document is short, paste the document into the text of your e-mail. Many thanks.
