Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Author: Ranjani K. Murthy, February 2 2023 - Often, people use the terms 'gender-transformative evaluation' and 'evaluation of gender transformation' interchangeably. However, they are different. Gender-transformative evaluation includes evaluation of gender-transformative change, but evaluations of gender transformation need not be gender transformative.
The figure below illustrates the broader ambit of gender-transformative evaluation, which includes centring gender-transformative principles, recruiting a diverse evaluation team with expertise in these principles, using gender-transformative evaluation methodologies and analysis frameworks (e.g., social relations framework, gender@work), and giving gender-transformative recommendations and taking back findings to marginalised women so they can hold management/duty bearers to account. Gender-Transformative Evaluations:

It is the broader ambit of gender-transformative evaluation that needs to be furthered!
Furthering accountability to take forward evaluation recommendations requires evaluation products that are tailor-made to different groups. Videos, podcasts, and visual materials are good for reaching marginalised women. Developing policy briefs for policymakers and securing a two-page management response are crucial to ensure that policymakers and managers take forward the findings.
