Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Global AIDS Alliance - Communications Intern

The Global AIDS Alliance (GAA), a small non-governmental organization focused on United States (US) and global advocacy to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS around the world is looking for a committed hard-working intern to support and expand GAA's grassroots presence in the US. The grassroots intern will participate in a wide scope of activities such as:

  • Conduct research and outreach to targeted districts and constituencies
  • Create materials that can be used on the ground
  • Monitor local news coverage in targeted districts
  • Participate in rapid response actions both on- and off-line, including blogging and writing letters to the editor
  • Possible technical work assisting the Campaign to End Pediatric AIDS (CEPA) network
  • Research media sources both domestically and abroad
  • Participate in coalitional conference calls and meetings representing the Global AIDS Alliance
  • Some light administrative work such as data entry and preparing mailings

Strong community organizing, internet research, and organizational skills are a must. Background in community, internet, political, or advocacy organizing or media relations a plus. Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel required.
