Love9 TV and Radio Toolkit about Sexual and Reproductive Health for NGOs and Health Workers in Cambodia

"Research indicates that mass media campaigns increase knowledge, skills and awareness of sexual and reproductive health issues, yet are most effective when combined with other complementary activities, including peer led interventions and outreach."
This resource describes Love9, a weekly TV and radio programme from BBC Media Action Cambodia that aims to address sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues among young people in Cambodia. It employs a "combination of drama, comedy, and factual discussion to encourage young people to learn directly from their peers" about such topics as contraceptives, multiple sexual partners, sexual orientation, and consent. "A radio discussion show as well as YouTube, Facebook and Soundcloud provide additional information, allowing ...audience members to engage directly. By the end of its first series, the show had gathered over 1 million YouTube views." This toolkit is a guide for those working on SRH. It is intended to accompany viewing/listening to the show, offering topics and ideas as to where and how each episode can be used.
This toolkit contains an overview of radio and TV programmes of Love9, available for viewing/listening online or through DVDs and CDs and "guidance questions for NGOs [non-governmental organisations] and health workers [on] how to address [SRH] with their beneficiaries and/or clients." The toolkit contents suggest locations and situations for discussion. Some ideas on situations for use of the toolkit include: trainings of health workers, peer-to-peer educators, health counsellors, and outreach workers; garment factory worker canteens, consultation rooms, or dormitories; public and private health facility waiting rooms; and social media platforms.
The toolkit gives an overview of the series and topics covered in each programme, including, for example, condom use, sexually transmitted infection (STI) check-ups after unprotected sex, etc. It gives character overviews and synopses of episodes and, for each episode, learning and talking points. For radio episodes, it supplies quotes from callers in the call-in portion of the show for further stimulation of discussion. It provides a feedback questionnaire for partners and a questionnaire for audience members.
