Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

The organisation Puntos de Encuentro compiled this multi-media library on the issue of sexual and reproductive rights because of an increase in adolescent pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS, and other sexual and reproductive health issues that are threats to people's development, health, and lives. "In the majority of countries, sexuality is a taboo subject, a synonym with something negative that shouldn't be spoken about. Due to this taboo, new generations face huge obstacles to access scientific information and timely healthcare services...As an information centre, we believe that citizens should have access to reliable information based on the recognition and appropriation of Sexual and Reproductive Rights."

The multi-media library is a compilation of 80 documents in audio, video, and text including theoretical and methodological tools, sites of interest, directors, and action guides, all which may be useful when addressing the issue of sexual and reproductive rights. Documents include titles such as:

  • Anticoncepción de Emergencia: prestación de services ("Emergency Contraception: Providing Services");
  • Demoler los mitos del amor romantic y la mujer madre ("Demolishing the Myths of Romantic Love and the Woman Mother"); and
  • La Sexualidad Importa ("Sexuality Matters").

Videos include Nunca me Imaginé ("I never thought it would happen") and Mujeres y VIH ("Women and HIV"). In the audio section, there are vignettes and radio programmes about STIs, abortion, condom use, and sexual and reproductive rights, all produced by Sexto Sentido Radio. Finally, there are links to other information sources and a bibliography of materials available at the Puntos Documentation Centre.

Puntos de Encuentro para la transformation de la vida cotidiana (Gathering Points for Transforming Daily Lives) is a Nicaraguan feminist organisation that works with young and adult women, developing their capacities to exercise their rights and autonomy in daily life. Puntos uses communication media, training, and alliance processes to promote and defend gender and generational equality, respect for diversity, rejection of discrimination and violence, and relations based on mutual respect.
