The Burkina NICI (National Information and Communications Infrastructure) Plan which is entitled "Plan de Developpement de l'Infrastructure d'Information et de Communication du Burkina Faso : 2000-2004" was officially launched in 2000 under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, the Ministry of Communication and Culture, and the General Directorate of Informatics. The Plan is expected to contribute to the following:
- enabling the country feel less its landlocked status
- improving good governance and the rule of law
- developing human resource capacity
- creating new resources and jobs
- promoting the country
The priority actions identified by the Plan to attain the above objectives aregeared to the following five critical areas:
- development of the telecommunication infrastructure
- modernizing the civil service
- support to research and education
- development of community information centres
- trade facilitation
Several follow up committees have been established for monitoring theimplementation of the NICI plan.
