Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
Developed by Integrated Approaches to Participatory Development (IAPAD), p3dm exchange is a freely accessible web-based database that aims to monitor the adoption of Participatory 3D Modeling and to help users learn from each others experiences. The database has been designed for use by practitioners, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), people's organisations, projects, aid agencies, research institutions, local governments and others, who are all welcome to contribute and to consult the facility.

Participatory 3D Modeling "is a relatively new communicative facilitation method conceived to support collaborative processes related mainly to resource use and tenure and aimed at facilitating grassroots participation in spatial problem analysis and decision-making. P3DM integrates people’s knowledge and spatial information (contour lines) to produce stand-alone scale relief models that have proved to be user-friendly and relatively accurate data storage and analysis devices and at the same time excellent communication media. "

To contribute data to the database, users must register, which is free. Registration is not needed to browse the database.
