Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

The sections of the online collection, "Stories of Courage", are radio broadcasts, published by Internews Network, containing stories and interviews focused on the impacts of living with HIV. The productions are part of the Local Voices project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which trains radio journalists, disc jockeys, and talk show hosts in how to report on HIV/AIDS accurately and effectively, in a way that reduces stigma and leads to a more supportive environment for prevention and treatment.

The broadcasts are provided as examples of the work of the Local Voices project and consist of five separate sections produced by radio journalists in Kenya, India, Nigeria, and Ethiopia. The stories themselves reflect the lives of children, adults, and care practitioners who have been affected by HIV. Additional information in the online sections contain the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) HIV/AIDS statistics about the respective countries and links to audio and written transcripts of the actual broadcasts.
