Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Youth Forum "Pregnancy Prevention in a Time of AIDS"

SummaryText
This online forum provides a series of postings that offer information and lessons learned on the subject of pregnancy prevention among youth. Each of the four weeks covered a particular subject area. Week one focused on the needs of different groups of young people, sexuality education, support from parents and the community, and access to quality services; week two's discussion was about young women and girls and in particular their vulnerability; week three emphasised medical barriers to contraception access and use; and week four focused on the ABCs of pregnancy and HIV prevention among youth.

Participation included individuals who have an interest in improving youth reproductive health services, including service delivery providers, policy-makers, researchers, educators and youth themselves. Thirty-two countries were represented (28 of them were developing countries).

The forum was sponsored by YouthNet, the INFO Project, and the Implementing Best Practices in Reproductive Health (IBP) Initiative, which is coordinated by the World Health Organization.
