Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

This is a social communication tool directed at citizens and local government authorities that provides a very simple way to disseminate information about how children under the age of 5 in Peru are doing. The tool also allows monitoring of the State’s investment in this age group, as well as monitoring of whether or not the authorities are fulfilling commitments made to children in early childhood.

The Information Barometer (Infobarometer) includes information from the nation, regions, provinces, and districts on issues such as education, health, nutrition, identity, and the public budget. This virtual tool was launched in May 2011 by the advisory group Inversión en la Infancia (Investment in Childhood) with support from the Bernard van Leer Foundation, as a way to support citizen mobilisation in favour of early childhood in the country. The strategy seeks to create consciousness in both public and private institutions as well as among the population about the need to invest in children from 0 to 5 years old (known as early childhood) as a key poverty reduction strategy.
