Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Everett M. Rogers Award for Achievement in Entertainment Education (EE)

0 comments

This award aims to recognise a practitioner in the field of entertainment education whose work has broken new ground in the field or whose contributions have made a substantial impact on audiences in the United States or abroad. Nominations of artists and/or producers of edutainment, as well as scholars or researchers, who study the impact of these messages are invited for consideration. The award committee holds nominations in active status for a four-year period; all nominations will be considered by the committee during that four-year period, along with new submissions.

Recipients of the award will be recognised at the annual Sentinel for Health Awards event in the United States, September 2007. The event is produced by the Hollywood, Health & Society project at the University of Southern California (USC) Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center. The Sentinel for Health Awards programme brings together entertainment writers and producers who are recognised for health storylines that have potential benefit to audiences with entertainment scholars who are recognised for research that has potential benefit to other researchers, practitioners and audiences. In addition, the Rogers Award recipient will present their work at a USC colloquium for students and faculty, and will be invited to speak in classes as time permits.

Completed nomination packets should include the following:

  • Researcher or practitioner resume, including presentations and publications;
  • Letter of nomination from a knowledgeable scholar or practitioner in the field of entertainment education explaining the excellence and innovativeness of the candidate’s work; and
  • A copy of the publication or sample of the project for which the nomination is made.

The deadline for application is June 25 2007.
