Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Everett M. Rogers Award

The Annenberg School’s Norman Lear Center invites nominations of practitioners in the field of entertainment education, including artists and/or producers of entertainment-education programmes. Nominations of scholars or researchers who study the impact of these messages are also invited for consideration. The award is named for Everett M. Rogers, a leader in the field of entertainment-education. According to the Lear Center, his lifetime of contributions significantly raised standards for producing appealing and effective media to enhance the quality of people's lives, and for conducting research to discover how these productions can best achieve intended outcomes.

Recipients of the award will be recognised at the annual Sentinel for Health Awards event in Los Angeles, California, United States. The event is produced by the Hollywood, Health & Society project at the University of Southern California (USC) Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center. The Sentinel for Health Awards programme brings together entertainment writers and producers who are recognised for health storylines that have potential benefit to audiences with entertainment scholars who are recognised for research that has potential benefit to other researchers, practitioners, and audiences. In addition, the Rogers Award recipient will present his or her work at a USC colloquium for students and faculty. Since the award committee holds nominations in active status for a four-year period, all nominations will be considered by the committee during that four-year period, along with new submissions.
