Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Presentations from the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) Meeting on Communication for Polio Eradication, Pakistan (2007)

Summary

These presentations were prepared for a September 2007 United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)-hosted meeting dedicated to examining cross-border polio communication efforts in Pakistan. In support of the final global push towards polio eradication, national and provincial-level presentations were given by in-country communication and health practitioners working in Pakistan's polio-endemic provinces (Sindh, Balochistan and the Northwest Frontier Province). These were assessed by an external panel of experts in the fields of development communication, epidemiology, mass media and anthropology, who provided communication programme recommendations based on data presented by the country teams, as well as data gathered on field visits to the endemic states. Communication strategies presented at this meeting were primarily focused on:

  1. Analysing the results of programmes implemented through September 2007
  2. Detailing activities on national and sub-national levels, specific to collaboration between Ministries of Health, mobile populations, campaign synchronisation, media, and political advocacy strategies
  3. Suggesting communication strategy and programme refinements for the next 6- to 12-month period, designed to support Pakistan's polio eradication efforts
