Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

How does one become a "Partner" in The Communication Initiative?

The CI Partners play both a strategic and funding role within the organisation. For more information, please contact Warren Feek, Executive Director wfeek@comminit.com

What is your Privacy Policy?

We consider all of the information we receive through subscriptions to our e-publications or discussion forums private and will not distribute your information for any purpose other than to share your work with your colleagues and peers, as is consistent with The Communication Initiative mission. If we share your work in this way, you will be informed and requested to review the information for accuracy.

We will not sell or distribute our subscription lists for any purpose at any time.

Why are words on your site spelled with "s"s instead of "z"s?

Our website uses the British spelling of most words (ie: organisation, programme, mobilisation, colour, etc.) The only time you will see American spelling on The Communication Initiative website is when the title of a project or paper or organisation originally uses American spelling. Anything written by The CI team, however, will use the British spelling.

What is your general editorial policy?

Our focus, editorially, is on communication initiatives and events, materials, reports, etc. that focus on the use and support of communication to impact development, as well as trends in communication worldwide, regionally and by specific country. We strive to keep the information on our site non-promotional (with the exception of our Classifieds sections). Our policy is to provide informational summaries, with as much contact information as possible for people who seek further details and connection with the implementers/originators/authors/publishers. Very occasionally we will post full documents to the site.

The exceptions to the above policy are within the "Classifieds" sections on The CI websites (currently Vacancies, Events Calendar and Training sections). These sections include information which may be posted as a paid-for service, without editorial review from The Communication Initiative's Editorial Director.

Further inquiries, contact: Deborah Heimann dheimann@comminit.com

Do you ever make changes to the content on your site?

The Communication Initiative reserves the right, in its discretion, to suspend, change, modify, add or remove portions of The Communication Initiative Content available on the site at any time. Most of the time this is in response to changes in information for the sake of accuracy.

Further inquiries, contact: Deborah Heimann dheimann@comminit.com

Where are the boundaries of your Geographical Regions?

To find out what countries are included in a Region, please click on the Region Title whereever you see it on The CI website (ie: South Asia or Latin America). This will open up a page that displays all of the content, within that Section, organised by specific countries within that Region. Please note: if there is no content within a Country, that Country will not display.
